Product updates

In the appMarketing → Updates

Send a product’s new version, free, to everyone who already has it, with an optional message in their local chat. An update isn’t a new sale. Owners, admins and managers can send updates.

Before you start: point the product to the new version

Plurion doesn’t store versions. An update sends the item the product delivers right now, from your DropBox, so the order matters:

  1. In Second Life, put the new version (say Aurora Jacket v3) in your DropBox
  2. Products → Inbox → Review update: the product now delivers v3, to new buyers too
  3. Updates → Test send: you receive it first
  4. Send to N buyers: everyone who has the product gets v3
A new version, in four steps

Don’t skip step 2. Until you click Review update, the product still delivers the old item, and so would your update. See The Inbox.

Send your first update

  1. On the webPick the product and what to sendIn Updates, choose the product. Under Delivery mode: Current version, Current + bonus item (pick the bonus among your DropBox items) or Message only.
  2. On the webWrite a message (optional)Up to 250 characters, sent to their local chat. Click a ready-made message to start from it.
  3. On the webChoose whenSend now, Tonight 8pm SLT, Tomorrow noon SLT, Weekend kickoff (Saturday 7pm SLT) or Custom, up to 90 days ahead. For a test, keep Send now.
  4. On the webSend a test to yourselfClick Review & send (Review test if nobody has bought it yet), then Send test. It goes only to your shop’s main avatar.
  5. In Second LifeCheck it in Second LifeWithin a minute or two, the message in your local chat and the item arrive from your DropBox. Open the item and check it’s the new version.
  6. On the webSend it to everyoneWrite or pick the message again, since the box empties after each send. Click Review & send, choose Send to N buyers, tick the confirmation and click Send to N buyers.
Test on yourself first; sending to everyone asks you to confirm
If something’s off
  • The test delivers the old version → the product still points to it. Do Review update in Products first, then test again.
  • Recipients turn Failed after about five minutes → no DropBox was live. Check your DropBoxes, then send a new update.
  • Recipients turn Failed at once → the item isn’t in any live DropBox (renamed or removed). Put it back, then send a new update.

What your buyers receive

They get your message in their local chat, then an inventory offer for the item (and the bonus), both from your DropBox. Buyers see the DropBox’s object name, so rename it in Second Life if “Plurion [Dropbox]” means nothing to them. Offline buyers get both at their next login.

Who receives it

Everyone who received the product from you (for a gift, the recipient), including imported sales once the product is mapped. Customers who switched off your updates, or banned at Level 2 or 3, are left out. The review shows how many will be notified.

Customers choose with the Receive product updates from … switch on their page at your shop (see their page). Turning it off only stops future updates. What they already own stays.

Following a send

History groups your updates by day. A scheduled update shows Queued, and Cancel stops it until it starts. It then goes Preparing (building the list), then Sent. Click an update to see each recipient.

What each recipient status means
RecipientWhat it meansWhat to do
QueuedWaiting its turn.Nothing.
SendingYour DropBox is sending it.Nothing.
RetryingA temporary problem (no DropBox live, a box not answering). Plurion tries again about once a minute, five times.Make sure a DropBox is live.
DeliveredSent (the item, the message, or both).Nothing.
FailedFive tries failed, or the item isn’t in any live DropBox.Fix the cause, then send a new update.

Updates go out in small batches, about twenty a minute at most. A list of several hundred buyers takes a while, but nothing is stuck.

Common questions

Can I resend only to the buyers who failed?
Not one by one. Fix the cause and send a new update, which goes to the whole list again.
A buyer declined the item. Can they still get it?
Yes. Deliver on their page at your shop sends the product’s current version any time, unless you turned redelivery off for that product.
